Doreen E. and David M. Summers

Husband and wife for 58 years, David and Doreen Summers passed away one day apart from each other.
Doreen E. Summers (nee Hanes) of Winchester passed away on Sept. 28, 2008 at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital. She was 80.
David M. Summers passed away on Sept. 29, 2008 at Dundas Manor in Winchester. He was 83.
Doreen was born in Inkerman on July 2, 1928 to Asa Hanes and Laura Crowder. David was born in Winchester on Aug. 25, 1925 to Ernest R. Summers and Isabella Wren.
They were married in Winchester on Aug. 30, 1950. Doreen was a proud housewife and homemaker and David worked as a lineman for Ontario Hydro.
David and Doreen were the beloved parents of Ken (Gloria) of Mountain and Cathy Summers of Hallville. They were the loving grandparents of David (Alison) and Shannon (Rob). They will also be missed by their granddogs Chief, Justice, Clyde, Marli, and "angels" Teddy, Felon, and Rudi.
Doreen was predeceased by her sister Pearl Thoms. She was the beloved aunt of Joan and Faye.
David was the beloved brother of Iris Harper, Gwen Saunders, and the late Howard (Olive).
A funeral service for the couple, led by Rev. Thurland Brown, was held at the Byers Funeral Home Chapel on Oct. 2, 2008, followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandson David Summers, grandson-in-law Rob Graham, niece Elaine Summers, Denzil Crowder, Sheldon McLeod, and Scott Hanes.
