D. Lloyd Allison
Donald "Lloyd" Allison, a lifetime
resident of Winchester Springs, passed away at the Winchester
District Memorial Hospital with family by his side on Sat., Oct.
31, 2009. He was 81.
Lloyd was born in Morewood on Aug. 22, 1928 to his parents Ralph
and Mildred Allison (nee Dillabough). When he was six months old
the family moved to "The Springs" to run the general
store and post office. Gradually the business grew to include
feed and trucking; this was the beginning of R.S. Allison &
Sons Ltd.
On Sept. 7, 1948 Lloyd married Elsie Empey, and together they
raised four children: Peter, Jane, Kirk, and Jennifer. Lloyd was
a hard working businessman for 60 years and enjoyed every minute
of it. He had a lifelong love of horses and motorcycles.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Elsie, his children Peter of Winchester
Springs, Jane Symonds (Willy) of Mississauga, Kirk (Victoria)
of Winchester Springs, and Jennifer (Danny) Lecours of Winchester
Springs; his brothers Keith (Donna) of Halifax, and Dale of Cambridge;
and by his grandchildren Aaron, Jordan, Cole, Shelby, Danielle,
Mackenzie, and Kaitlyn. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on Mon., Nov. 2. The funeral service was held at the funeral home
on Tue., Nov. 3 with Rev. Christine Lowson officiating. The eulogies
were given by Lloyd's daughter Jennifer and by his brother Dale.
The pallbearers were Peter Allison, Kirk Allison, Danny Lecours,
Aaron Allison, Jordan Symonds, and Cole Allison. Interment of
cremated remains was held on Sat., Nov. 14.
Donations to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital or Winchester
Springs United Church would be appreciated by the family.
