Glen Droppo
Glen "Lion Who" Droppo, surrounded
by love, passed away in hospital on Fri., Aug. 7, 2009. He was
75.
He was the devoted husband to Rita for 43 years, the loving father
to Kim (Crystal) and Vickie (Craig), and the doting grandfather
of Jacob and Jason.
His outgoing warmth and interest in others earned him friends
wherever he went. His sense of humour will be missed by all who
knew him.
Glen was an adventurous traveller in his youth, a dedicated and
hard-working accountant to many local businesses, and an avid
golfer, shuffler, curler, card shark, and genealogist in his retirement.
For 40 years, he was a passionate and tireless volunteer for many
service groups, including the Chesterville Rotary Club and the
Winchester Lions Club, where he served as president from 1976
to1977 and was honoured as a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1995. His
dedicated service to the CNIB was recognized in 2001 when he received
the Hellen Keller Fellowship Award.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Burke and Dr. Flowers for their care and
kindness, and heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at the Winchester
District Memorial Hospital and the Ottawa Cancer Centre, who treated
Glen with respect and tenderness during his final days. Thanks
also to the many caring neighbours on Albert Street.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Glen's life at the Winchester
Lions Club on Sat., Sept. 12 from 11 am to 2 pm.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Glen's memory would
be appreciated.
The arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Funeral Chapels in Winchester.
