Hazel I. Holmes
Hazel Holmes (nee Dunbar) of Winchester passed
away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Sat., Feb. 21,
2009. She was 88.
She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley Holmes. She was the
loved sister of Albert (late Beulah) Dunbar of Winchester, Nellie
(Sterling) McEwen of North Gower, and Clare (Millie) Dunbar of
Iroquois. She was predeceased by brothers Harold (the late Mabel),
and Floyd (Ruth). She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces,
nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Hazel's life revolved around the church but not only at the local
level. She worked at the denominational Publishing House when
it was in Syracuse, then with World Gospel Mission in Marion,
IN, and then for several years she was the personal secretary
to the president of Houghton College, N.Y. In 1974 she came back
home and married Stan Holmes. Together they were ardent supporters
of the ministry of Winchester Wesleyan Church. She remained very
active until the summer of 2008 when her health didn't permit
it.
Family and friends paid their respects at the Daniels Funeral
Chapels in Winchester on Mon., Feb. 23. The funeral service was
held in the Winchester Wesleyan Church on Tues., Feb. 24, followed
by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
