Effie Maude McGrath
Effie Maude McGrath (nee Francis), formerly
of South Mountain and Jasper, passed away at Woodland Villa in
Long Sault on June 10, 2009. She was 107.
She was born on Dec. 29, 1901 in South Mountain to the late Thomas
and Mary (nee Hamilton) Francis. She was the wife of the late
Garnet Wellington McGrath whom she married on July 23, 1924 at
Smiths Falls Presbyterian Church. She was the sister of Helen
Noffke of Ottawa and Winona Halpenny of South Mountain, and the
late Ed, Hazel Shaver, Harry, Adelaide Robertson, Earl, and Lelah
Midwinter. She was the aunt of many nieces and nephews.
She was formerly a pubic school teacher at Easton's Corners. She
was a member of the United Church in South Mountain.
The funeral was held in the chapel of the Byers Funeral Home in
South Mountain on June 13, 2009 with Rev. Fred Milnes officiating,
followed by interment at Woolford Cemetery in Jasper. The pallbearers
were Dale Cook, Brian Halpenny, Earl McGrath; Craig and Todd Halpenny,
and Dave Short.
