Debra McHaffie-Strader
A lifetime resident of the Glen Becker area,
Debbie Strader, passed away at the Cornwall Hospice on Sat., Oct.
24, 2009, following a two-year battle with cancer, which she fought
with courage and dignity. She was 54.
Debbie was born in Winchester on Dec. 23, 1954, the youngest of
seven children born to her parents, Lloyd and Audrey McHaffie
(nee Saddlemire). She attended S.S. #10, then Riverside Public
School and later Seaway District High School. After graduating
from high school, she attended Algonquin College, where she earned
her diploma in business administration and accounting. Following
graduation, she began working at Ault Foods in Winchester. Then
she joined Beavers Dental on Nov. 20, 1978 as an exportation documentation
clerk.
On June 30, 1979 she married her high school sweetheart, Neil
Strader, and they formed a dynamic couple who enjoyed many memorable
occasions together.
Affectionately known as Debbie "Duck", she was a hard-working
lady who tirelessly volunteered for numerous fundraising events,
as well as helping her family members endlessly throughout her
entire life. Debbie was a dedicated and true friend to all those
she bestowed this honour upon. She enjoyed golfing and curling,
and she and Neil were avid snowmobilers. They enjoyed many trips
across Ontario and Quebec on her Yamaha snowmobile.
She is survived by her husband Neil, her siblings Elsie Guindon
(Lynden Casselman) of Morrisburg, Linda Casselman (John Lague)
of RR#1 Morrisburg, Carole (Earl) Brown of RR# 2 Ingleside, Wayne
(Sheila) McHaffie of Glen Becker, Janet (Gary) McColl of Prescott,
and Heather Torres (Lawrence Hunter) of RR#3 Williamsburg. She
is also survived by her father-in-law Lorne Strader of Brinston,
and her sisters-in-law Lorna (Jeff) Johnston of Orleans and Sharon
(Eric) Zwicker of Laval. She was predeceased by her parents Lloyd
and Audrey, her mother-in-law Vera Strader, her nephew Kevin Guindon
and her brother-in-law Rae Loucks. She will be fondly remembered
by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many
friends throughout the area.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on Tues., Oct. 27. The funeral service was held at the funeral
home on Wed., Oct. 28 with Rev. Elaine Beattie officiating. Interment
of cremated remains followed at Spruce Haven Cemetery in Brinston.
The pallbearers were Andy Brown, Pat Harper, Steven Guindon, and
Sebastien Torres. The honourary pallbearers were Rob Edgerton,
Brian Montgomery, Charles Bailey, and Rob Quenneville.
