Donald McPhee

Donald McPhee, a resident of the Linton Apartments in Winchester for the past 11 years, passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Sun., Jan. 18, 2009, following a lengthy illness. He was 87.
Donald Gray McPhee was born in Dickinson's Landing on Aug. 12, 1921 to James and Sarah Jane McPhee (nee Gray), and lived there until the age of 21 when he bought a farm in Wales. He farmed there until 1956 when the Seaway construction forced him to relocate. He then purchased a farm in Ormond where he lived for 10 years before moving to a farm on the Deeks Road north of Morrisburg. He farmed on the Deeks Road until 1976 when he and Audrey moved to Ingleside where they lived for eight years. In 1984, they moved back to Morrisburg, and they lived there until they moved to the Linton Apartments in Winchester in 1998.
He will be remembered as a hard worker who enjoyed cutting wood with his son Lynn. He was not interested in sports but at times he enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He loved to visit, and especially loved having his family around him during the holidays.
He is survived by his wife Audrey McPhee (nee Duvall), his daughter Judy (Gary) Tyo of Berwick, and his siblings Doreen Williams of Ingleside, Dorothy (Charlie) Pitcher of Ingleside, Anna McIntosh of RR#2 Ingleside, Rena (Ritchie) Warren of RR#2 Ingleside, and Lloyd McPhee of St. Catharines. Don will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Dulcie, Dustin, Joshua, Danielle, and Glen, and three great-grandchildren Allyson, Vanessa, and Michelle. He was predeceased by his son Lynn, his sister Beulah Brassard, and his brother Clinton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A private family funeral service was held at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Tues., Jan. 20 with Rev. Janet Evans officiating, followed by cremation. Interment of cremated remains was at New Union Cemetery in Williamsburg.
Donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
