Matthew John McSheffrey

Matthew John McSheffrey, namesake of his great-grandfather, born Sept. 27, 1988, left this world while held in loving arms to go meet his Creator and Nanny Lyons and Grandpa McSheffrey on Mon., April 27, 2009.
John was the precious son of Peter McSheffrey and Marilyn Lyons. He was the devoted brother of Daniel and Steven. He was the treasured grandson of Ernie Lyons (late Helen) and Agnes McSheffrey (late Herbert). He was the beloved nephew of Victor and Mary, Terry and Lorna, Teresa McSheffrey, Larry and Theresa, Harry and LeeAnn, and Diana Lyons. He was the special Godfather to Erin Lyons. He was the cherished big cousin to Carlee and Sara Lyons, Cole and Madison McSheffrey and Derek and Keyvan Lyons.
He was an employee of Columbia Fire Protection in Calgary, Alberta. He will be remembered by many special friends from Junior Kindergarten to high school years, North Dundas hockey years to employee years for his sense of humour and his quiet, kind and gentle ways.
The funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church on Fri., May 1, followed by interment at parish cemetery in Russell. He was carried with honour to his final resting place by pallbearers Justin Peters, Jason Cattelier, Chad Lajeunesse, Matt Thompson, Duncan Reitboeck, and Chris Campeau, and honourary pallbearers Chris McLean, Grant Sheldrick, Kyle Loverin, and Bill McMenomy.
Donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, 5 West Haematology/Oncology or to The Little Angel's Blood Cancer Fund c/o Ottawa Hospital Foundation 737 Parkdale Avenue, 1st Floor, Ottawa, ON K1Y 1J8 www.ohfoundation.ca or as per Matthew's request a trust fund will be set up at Scotiabank Russell for his brothers Daniel and Steven to receive upon graduation from high school.
