Rodney "Ripper" Stitt
Rodney Paul "Ripper" Stitt, a resident
of Glen Stewart for the last nine years, passed away at home on
Tues., March 3, 2009 following a brief battle with cancer. He
was born on Aug. 8, 1963.
Rodney was a lifetime resident of Cardinal until he met his loving
companion, Bea Smith, in 1999 and moved to Glen Stewart to live.
Besides his companion Bea, he is survived by his son, Brendon
of Cardinal, his stepson, Jim of Morrisburg, his parents Mary
and Jim of Cardinal, along with his two brothers, Barry (Lynn)
of Cardinal and Darren (Carolyn) of South Mountain. He is also
survived by four nephews: Zach, Lucas, Colton, and Bradley, and
many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He worked with his brother, Darren, building and remodelling homes
for the past few years. He loved working with his hands. Rodney
believed in working hard and then enjoying life.
He was a very caring man, especially to his friends and family.
He loved being with family and friends. He threw many BBQs and
parties. He always made everyone feel welcome and was the highlight
of the party.
Rodney played a number of sports, including fishing, hockey, broomball,
baseball, and golf. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and
golf fan.
Friends called at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Cardinal
on Thurs., March 5. The service was held on Fri., March 6 at the
funeral home, followed by burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cardinal.
The service was officiated by a dear friend of the family, Jim
Grant. Trevor Gill, a long-time friend, delivered the eulogy.
The pallbearers were Tim Markus, Trevor Gill, Randy Stitt, Stephen
King, Denis and Paul Casselman, Jeff Allen, and Danny McLaughlin.
The honourary pallbearers were Jim Smith, Doug Leizert, Zach,
Lucas, Colton, and Bradley Stitt. Friends and family later gathered
at the Cardinal branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
In memorial donations were made to the Children's Wish Foundation.
