Reginald Leroy Strader
Reginald Leroy Strader, of the Hartford Retirement
Centre in Morrisburg for the past two years, formerly of Winchester,
passed away on Sat., May 9, 2009 at the Winchester District Memorial
Hospital. He was 88.
He was born on May 26, 1920 in Winchester Township to the late
Leroy and Edith H. (nee Beach) Strader. He was predeceased by
his wife, Ada Maude (nee Gray), whom he married on April 29, 1941
in Finch. He is survived by his brother G. Gordon (Dorothy) and
by several nieces and nephews.
He was formerly a service station attendant, and a salesman/hardware
clerk. He worked for the Ottawa Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals (S.P.C.A.), was an Ontario Department of Agriculture
and Food-Dairy Herd Improvement supervisor, and served as the
regional superintendent of Eastern Ontario Dairy Herd Improvement.
He attended public schools in Winchester and Ottawa, and high
school at Ottawa Glebe Collegiate. Reginald attended Kemptville
Agriculture School (class of '36). He was a member of the Alumni
Association, Kemptville College of Agricultural Technology, (class
of '38). He was also a member of Henderson Lodge No. 383, A.F.
& A.M.; Winchester Chapter 310, O.E.S.; Ontario Public Service
Quarter Century Club, and a member of the Winchester United Church.
The funeral was held in the chapel of Byers Funeral Home in South
Mountain on Thurs., May 14 with Rev. Elaine Beattie officiating,
followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
The pallbearers were Tom Henderson, Gordon James, Tom Clapp, Jack
Yourt, Cary Churchill, and Lyle Byers.
