C. Mac Thompson
1925 to 2009
C. Mac Thompson passed away on Sun., Aug. 30, 2009 at the Dundas
Manor. He was 83.
He was born in Russell in 1925 to Bernice Bilow and Cecil Thompson.
At the age of 14, after his mother passed away, he went to work
at his uncle George Thompson's farm at Gordonville, where he met
his future wife, Marjorie Summers, who was boarding there while
teaching at Gordonville School.
Mac and Marjorie were married on July 5, 1947. After building
his herd of cattle to 17, in 1950 they purchased a farm on Coulthart
Road, where they have resided since. Together, they had four children:
Linda, Sheila Patricia (deceased), Ronnie (deceased), and Donnie.
Mac had a fondness for horses and always had several so he could
enjoy driving them. He also bought cattle with F. C. McLennan
from Lancaster. He wanted to make sure his love for farming was
passed down, and Linda, Ronnie, and Donnie were all enrolled in
4-H dairy clubs. In 1969, Mac had the grand champion cow at the
South Mountain Fair. He was always very proud of this accomplishment.
Mac enjoyed having a good time. He was a member of five music
clubs and was sure to attend the Friday and Saturday-night dances.
He kept going to these until he became ill in December of 2007.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Marjorie, as well
as his children, Linda (Ken) Warner, and Donald (Mary) Thompson.
He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Ryan and Michael
Thompson, Dale (Pam) Coulthart, and David Coulthart, as well as
great-grandchildren Brandon and Nicholas Coulthart, and Emma and
Kaylen Coulthart. He is survived by his brothers, Raymond (May)
Thompson and Bevis (Gladys) Thompson, and sister Iris (Glen) Cunningham.
He is also survived by his half-siblings, Joan (John) McLean,
Lynn (Elsie) Thompson, Lyle (Ruth) Thompson, Beverley (Norman)
Welk, Faye (Glen) Kinsella, and Frank Thompson. He is predeceased
by his daughter, Sheila Patricia, his son, Ronnie, his grandson,
Christopher Thompson, his sisters, Lula (Calvin) Wagner, Gloria
(Jack) Pickard, and Maisie (Walter) Cheney-Smirle.
Visitation was held on Tues., Sept. 1 at the Chesterville Funeral
Home. The funeral service was held on Wed., Sept. 2 at the funeral
home with Rev. Wendy Wright-MacKenzie officiating, with readings
from Rev. Mary-Lou Shortill, followed by interment at Maple Ridge
Cemetery. The pallbearers were Raymond Porteous, John Klein-Swormink,
Brian McLaughlin, Steve Swerdfeger, Craig Carruthers, Tom MacGregor,
and Bill VanGurp.

Memorial Hospital.
