Hugh Angus Blaine
Hugh Angus Blaine passed away peacefully at
Dundas Manor on Jan. 13, 2010 in his 86th year.
He was the husband, partner, and best friend of Margie (Clark)
whom he married on June 4, 1949, and who predeceased him on June
27, 2005. He was also predeceased by his brother Johnny. He and
Margie were lifelong residents of North Dundas and together on
their farm on Kerr's Ridge Road, they raised their family: Douglas
(Debbie), Deborah (Daryl Brown), Linda (Wilmer Porteous), Pamela
(Allan Somerville), Ellen (Ronnie MacNaughton), and John (Liz).
He was the proud grandpa of 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Having sold their farm in 1979, they moved to Loughlin Ridge and
began their second career in real estate. In 2002, they moved
to South Mountain.
Hugh was active in the community having served on the local school
board, Mountain Township Council, and the South Mountain Fair
Board. He was a member of the Dundas County Holstein Club, the
Dundas Federation of Agriculture, the Dundas Soil and Crop Improvement
Association, Mountain Lions, and was a 4-H leader. In 1958 he
won the Ontario Pasture Competition and won Premier Breeder and
Premier Exhibitor at the Dundas County Black and White show numerous
times. His proudest accomplishment was being the recipient of
his "Master Breeder" award from Holstein Canada in 1975.
A private family service, officiated by Rev. Blair Paterson, was
held on Fri., Jan. 15 in the chapel of the Byers Funeral Home
in South Mountain. Following the service, the family received
friends at the Mountain Township Agricultural Hall in South Mountain
for a "Celebration of Life."
