Graham L. Casselman

Graham Casselman, a lifetime resident of Winchester Springs, passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Fri., Feb. 5, 2010, following a brief illness. He was 86.
He was the son of Aden and Mary Casselman (nee Dillabough). He was predeceased by sisters Georgina Ault and Edna Riddell, and a brother, Clifford.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, his children, Douglas G. (Betty Lou) of Morrisburg, Janice (Kim) Hecht of Kelowna, B.C., and Kevin (Marilyn) of Kingston, his grandchildren, Darrick and Dean Casselman; Kristian, Nathan, and Patrick Hecht; and Erinn (Colin) Williams, his great-grandson, Reeve, and his brother, Percy (Geraldine) of Winchester Springs.
Graham attended local schools and graduated from Ottawa normal school (teachers college). After a brief teaching career he chose to enter the insurance business and he received his Chartered Life Underwriter's Degree (CLU) in 1962. With his son Douglas G. (CLU) they formed Casselman Insurance and Annuities Agency, and Graham pursued his chosen profession for over 57 years. Graham was awarded a life membership in the Life Underwriter's Association of Canada.
Graham was active in the community. He coached hockey, and he served as village trustee, president of the North Dundas Educational Association, director and treasurer of Winchester Springs Recreational Association, a trustee with the SD&G County Board of Education, and chairman of the Land Division Committee. He was a dedicated lifetime member of Winchester Springs United Church, and a member of the Williamsburg OddFellows Lodge for 60 years.
Visitation was at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg. The funeral service was held at Winchester Springs United Church on Mon., Feb. 8 at 11 am with Rev. Christine Lowson officiating, followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers were Darrick Casselman, Dean Casselman, Patrick Hecht, Colin Williams, Peter Boersma, and David Lapier.
