Margaret Casselman

A lifetime resident of the area, Margaret Casselman (nee Durant) of RR#1 Iroquois, passed away peacefully at home on Sat., April 3, 2010. She was 95.
Margaret was born in Chesterville on May 24, 1914 to Milton and Annabelle Durant (nee Barkley), and was raised on the family farm.
On Jan. 27, 1930, she married Kenneth Casselman, and together they had 19 children. With such a large family to care for, Margaret was always a very hard worker, and she was very dedicated to her family. She always had a large garden from which she made preserves each year that would feed her entire family. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, and camping. After her family had grown up and she had some spare time, she enjoyed travelling, going to yard sales, and having yard sales of her own. She liked to listen to classic country music, and she attended the Gatineau Clog and the Ompah Stomp on several occasions. She will be fondly remembered for her good sense of humour, her amazing memory, and her pleasant smile.
Margaret is survived by her children Betty (Fred) Hutt of RR#1 Iroquois, Anne Thompson of Prescott, Arnold (Tilda) of RR#3 Williamsburg, Shirley (Jack) Nelson of Cochrane, Alta., Barbara Benson (Bill Barnett) of Brockville, Dwayne (Myrna) of Blackie, Alta., Charlotte (David) Froats of Brinston, Gordon (Shirley) of Newington, Marion Casselman of Morrisburg, Karl (Brenda) of Sundre, Alta, Susan (Mac) Lewis of Iroquois, Janet Casselman of RR#1 Iroquois, Janice Bradford of Glen Becker, Sandra Casselman of Morrisburg, Cathy Casselman of Morrisburg, Darlene (Martin) Vanderbruggen of Glen Stewart, and Donna (Karl) Billings of Hanesville; her siblings, Muriel Cornell of Ottawa, Audrey Ducolon of Winchester, Mason (Beulah) Durant of Winchester, and Milfred Durant of Kingston. Margaret will be fondly remembered by 33 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; sons Allen and Delbert; grandchildren Randy Froats, Sarah Lewis, Jeffrey Lewis, and Terry Harper; sons-in-law Ron Bradford and John Thompson; sisters Dorothy Durant, Hilda Billings, and Lillian McCooeye; brothers Lyle, Dwight, and Warren.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Tues., April 6. The funeral service was held at Williamsburg United Church on Wed., April 7 with Rev. Elaine Beattie officiating, followed by interment at New Union Cemetery in Williamsburg. The honourary pallbearers were grandsons Garry Hutt, Steven Casselman, Earl Benson, Victor Thompson, and Doug Froats. The active pallbearers were grandsons Robert Lewis, Steven Bradford, Greg Blok, Ken Froats, Anthony Vanderbruggen, and Nicholas Billings.
