Abram DeJong
Abram DeJong died peacefully at home on Thurs., Aug. 12, 2010
in his 85th year.
He was born on March 20, 1926 to Willem and Antje DeJong in Oudega,
The Netherlands. Abram was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters.
He lived in the Netherlands until 1955 when he immigrated to Canada.
On May 7, 1960 he married Gertie Greydanas, and together they
raised six children: Edsel, Jean, Nancy, Pete, Wilma, Hazel, and
Tammy. Abram was a dairy farmer on Nesbitt Road for 26 years,
before moving to his retirement farm on Sandy Row Road in Inkerman
in 1986. Abram had a love for animals. He had many goats, horses,
and dogs on his farm.
Abram was also a supporter of Timothy Christian School over the
years, and a member of the Williamsburg Christian Reformed Church.
Abram is survived by his wife, Gertie, his children, Edsel of
Eureka River, Alta., Jean Goddard of Windsor, Nancy (Peter) Cummings
of Russell, Peter (Amy) of RR #4 Winchester, Wilma (Paul) Oosterhof
of RR #1 Inkerman, Hazel (David) Saunders of Embro, and Tammy
(Bill) Irven of RR #1 Chesterville. Pake will be fondly remembered
by 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased
by an infant daughter, Susan, a grandson, Sandy Saunders, sisters
Jitske DeJong, Hinke Stel, Hiltje VanderHeide, and brothers Cornelis,
Roelof, Stuart, Sybren, Piebe, Fokke, and Bindert. He is also
survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on Sun., Aug. 15. The funeral service was held at Williamsburg
Christian Reformed Church on Mon., Aug. 16 with Rev. John Noordhof
officiating, followed by interment at New Union Cemetery in Williamsburg.
The honourary pallbearers were Michael Saunders, Abram Saunders,
Kyle Oosterhof, and Codie DeJong. The pallbearers were Bill Irven,
Chad DeJong, Kristin DeJong, Dustin DeJong, Brandon Oosterhof,
and Roy Goddard - all are grandsons of Pake.
Donations to Timothy Christian School or Winchester District Memorial
Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
