Ren Elliott

Ren Elliott, a lifetime resident of the Dunbar area, passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Fri., Jan. 8, 2010. He was 87.
William "Ren" Elliott was born on Weegar Road on June 30, 1922 to his parents, Harold and Lois Elliott, and lived his entire life in the same house. Ren grew up on the family farm along with his brother, Eldon, and his sister, Anita. He fell in love with his sweetheart, Alice Munro, at a house party at Marjorie and Myles Munro's and they were married on May 11, 1949. Together they had seven children: Carson, Gordon, Linda, Barry, Brenda, Garry, and Connie.
Ren loved the land and enjoyed farming the home farm, but Ren was a jack of all trades and as well as being a farmer, his resume included jobs at Nestlé's, St. Lawrence Seaway, Arthur Thom, and Cornwall Gravel. He also worked as a bus driver, antique 'dealer', and a bread and meat seller, to mention just a few.
He was a man who loved people, music, dancing, laughing, animals, and poetry, and his heart went out to his family and to all animals. He was a strong, hard-working man who possessed a fabulous memory and enjoyed the simple things in life.
Together, he and Alice provided a wonderful home life for their family full of love, the joys and satisfaction of good hard work, fun and laughter, humour, and music.
Ren is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Alice Elliott, his children: Carson (the late Cathy) of Ingleside, Gordon (Allison Beckstead) of RR #2 Chesterville, Linda (Lyn) Winters of RR #1 Finch, Barry of Chesterville, Brenda (Brian) Waddell of RR #1 Chesterville, Garry (Cathy Bishop) of RR #2 Mountain, and Connie (Lyle) Servage of RR #1 Williamsburg; his sister Anita Weagant of Winchester; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Eldon Elliott. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Sun., Jan 10. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Mon., Jan. 11 with Rev. Wendy Wright-MacKenzie officiating. The pallbearers were Garry Munro, Ron Munro, Wayne Dillabough, Bob Weagant, Bob Dillabough, and Gary Barkley. Spring interment will be at Grantley Cemetery.
