Muriel McIntosh

Muriel McIntosh, a resident of Winchester for the past five years, passed away suddenly at home on Wed., March 17, 2010. She was 79.
Muriel was born in Williamsburg on March 12, 1931 to her parents, Weldon and Gladys Beckstead (nee O'Shaughnessy). She attended Elma Public School and Morrisburg Collegiate where she was an "A" student.
After graduation she went to Teachers College in Ottawa and then began teaching at Boucks Hill Public School. She quit teaching for a short time to have her three sons, Brian, David, and Peter, and then she returned to teaching grades 1 and 2 at Williamsburg Public School where she remained until the school closed. She then taught Grade 5 at Morrisburg Public School until she retired. She still received letters from some of the children she taught... she was not only their teacher, but she was their friend.
Muriel will be fondly remembered for her kind, nurturing demeanour and her generous nature. She was a devoted mother to her three sons and a proud grandmother of Sam. She enjoyed knitting, writing poetry, and spending time at the lake.
She is survived by her dear friend Bill Kline of Ottawa, her sons, Brian (Rhonda) of Ault Island, David (Tracy) of Williamsburg, and Peter (Joanne) of Ottawa, her sisters, Betty (Gary) Price of Winchester, and Myrna Whelan of Morrisburg, and her grandson Sam. She was predeceased by her parents, Weldon and Gladys Beckstead, her sister, Donna, and her brother, John. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
A private family funeral service was held at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Sun., March 21 with Rev. Wendy Wright-MacKenzie officiating, followed by interment at Spruce Haven Cemetery in Brinston. The pallbearers were Brian McIntosh, David McIntosh, Peter McIntosh, and Sam McIntosh.
