Norman Nottell
A resident of Ottawa for the past 44 years, Norman Nottell passed
away at the Elisabeth Bruyère Centre in Ottawa on Sat.,
June 12, 2010, following a 13 month battle with cancer. He was
63.
He was born in Chesterville on Aug. 27, 1946 to his parents, Harold
and Mildred Nottell (nee Rae).
He attended SS #5 at Nation Valley for his primary years, and
attended Winchester High School and North Dundas District High
School.
Following high school he worked at Ottawa City Hall for many years
then went to work for the Federal Government for over 35 years.
Norman held a variety of positions but was mostly responsible
for publishing statistical reports. Norman's ability to manipulate
numbers and recall them years later was truly a gift.
Norman was well respected by his colleagues for his generosity,
knowledge, and strong work ethic, as well as his friendly nature.
People often turned to Norman for advice on anything from corporate
history at work to travel to where to buy the best priced groceries
for the week. His co-workers were a great source of support during
his illness.
Norm took up running several years ago. He had many friends from
the Running Room and the Capital Roadrunners.
He made many very good friends during his years in Ottawa. He
was a kind and gentle man, and would do anything to help someone
when they needed it. He was an excellent cook and loved to make
cookies and Nuts N' Bolts at Christmas time. His family will miss
his treats.
Norman is survived by his brother, John and his wife Colleen of
Greely, his sister, Patricia and her husband Gary Derks of RR
#2, Chesterville, his two spoiled nephews, Martin (Marty) and
William, and his favourite niece, Samantha Derks. He was predeceased
by his parents, Harold and Mildred Nottell.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville
on Sat., June 19 from 9 to 10:30 am. The funeral mass was celebrated
at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Chesterville at 11 am with
Father Cosmas Ajawara officiating. Interment of cremated remains
followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers
were Brian Huebener, Michael Kearns, Jean Latremouille, and Glyn
Lewis.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Elizabeth Bruyère
Centre, the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice
would be appreciated by the family.
